Potential

I have told myself for as long as I can remember picking up a pen, “If it can be imagined, it can be achieved.” It was a theme I carried with me into the production of my first website long ago (Andromeda Publishing LLC) as well as submitting samples of my work on a promising website (RedRoom.com). Suffice to say, I am not alone in this form of thinking.

The most notable quotes that mirror this ethos are echoed by William A. Ward (1921-1994) “If you can imagine it, you can create it, if you can dream it, you can become it”, or Ronnie Lott (Ronald M. Lott, 1959-present) “If you can believe it, the mind can achieve it.”

What is it about this way of thinking that seems to occur in some of us but not all? On the one hand I could argue that we tend to give up on each other too easily, almost as if we expect each other to fail if not want for it (a comment I touched upon in another blog).

However, this is me rationalizing after living for a few years. On the other, as a youth I thought incessantly about how much I believed in our potential; what we were capable of as man on this world without question. Even if the concept of what we imagine is yet to manifest except in a completely fictional environment (or an abstract expression), one way or another we will derive the technical expertise to make such inspirations possible and then well within our reach.

The technological advances of our lost ancient civilizations speak of our ingenuity and yet we still doubt ourselves. Our progression is forward; it’s what makes all things (including hope) possible. What we shouldn’t be afraid of in our endeavors, no matter how much of ourselves is lost, is whether or not the dream which inspired our initiative into action is met by someone other than our personal self. Pursuing one dream and failing will only help prepare you for another dream’s success.

We use to say at work “there is nothing we can’t achieve so long as no one is worried about taking the credit.” And it was true; with a plan, a little collaborating, and some direction we were able to get whatever we set our minds upon accomplished. Amidst our differences, there is excitement enthralled by our ability that I hope never to lose. I can’t wait to see what we achieve next.
